Glendale CA – On Saturday March 31st, 2018 dozens of high school and college students gathered at the Glendale Youth Center for a recruitment and information session with the Glendale Fire and Police Departments. Glendale Unified School District Board of Education member Mr. Shant Sahakian, GPD Interim Chief of Police Carl Povilaitis and Victoria Dochoghlian representing the office of Assemblymember Laura Friedman were also in attendance. Firefighter Paramedic Ara Zakarian introduced the attendees to the Glendale Fire Department. Glendale, CA – On Tuesday, March 13, 2018 the Glendale City Council unanimously voted to initiate the process of renaming a public right of way in honor of the Republic of Artsakh. Among the several alternatives provided by the city staff, was the option to rename the stretch of Maryland Avenue between Harvard and Wilson Street. The Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale (ANCA Glendale) expressed strong support for the option to rename Maryland Avenue to Artsakh Street.
