Glendale, CA – On January 29, the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education at their Special Board Meeting released (by a vote of 3-2) Superintendent Dr. Winfred B. Roberson, Jr. from his existing contract without cause, effective immediately, pursuant to contract paragraph 11(c), GUSD Board of Education released a statement on January 30th. Glendale, CA, January 29th, 3.00 PM – The Holy Martyrs Ferrahian High School and the AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School, in Encino and Canoga Park respectively, were vandalized overnight, in what police are calling a hate incident and a hate crime, after school officials reported Turkish flags hanging on campus, Asbarez reported today.According to the source, police have been called at both campuses and are investigating, and all precaution has been taken to ensure safety of the schools. GLENDALE, CA – According to final precincts reporting, Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena city voters all approved to increase the city’s sales tax to 10.25% from 9.5%. In Burbank, Measure P, the “Burbank Infrastructure and Community Services Protection Measure” passed with 60.02 percent (16,039) in favor and 39.98 percent (10,685) opposing it. In Glendale, Measure S, also referred to as the “Glendale Quality of Life & Essential Services Measure,” passed with 53.04 percent (19,964) voting in favor and 46.96 percent (17,672) opposing it. GLENDALE – The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region recently announced that it will be partnering with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and other Elections officials to organize a series of Community Meetings in Glendale, Pasadena, and the Crescenta Valley to give residents the opportunity to discuss potential Vote Center locations to be placed within their neighborhoods in 2020. The new vote centers are part of the new voting model set to be launched for the March 2020 Statewide Primary Election. The new voting model will utilize vote centers in compliance with the California Voter’s Choice Act passed in 2016. GLENDALE – With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Measure S, also known as the Glendale Quality of Life & Essential Services Measure, passed with 54.43 percent voting yes and 45.57 percent voting no. The number of votes in favor of the measure was 27,444 while 22,978 were against.
